Sarah Palin’s Troubles

In the last few days I’ve learned the following about Sarah Palin:

  1. Her teenage daughter is pregnant.
  2. Her Down syndrome child is probably her grandchild.
  3. She thinks the founding fathers created the Pledge of Allegiance.
  4. She was an Alaskan Secessionist.
  5. She is under investigation in an ethic’s probe.

Either John McCain made a huge mistake which he’s suffering for or Digg and Dailykos are vindictive rumor mills. Either way, someone is pouncing.

This is like a Bernard Kerik/Harriet Meirs choice. The only difference is that John McCain can’t retract his pick. The Palin VP pick is definitely a shark-jump moment for his campaign.

I wouldn’t be surprised if she withdrew her name from submission for personal reasons. It’s not too late for Smokin’ Joe Lieberman.

I dunno…I might be the only one who actually thinks that Palin does nothing to hurt McCain, regardless of her teenage daughter and general inabilities as a politician.

So far we’ve seen a huge amount of damning material come to light, and very little (if any) knockback to the McCain campaign. Sure her daughter’s pregnant and yet she runs on an abstinence-only platform, it just shows that she a full-blooded pro-lifer. Sure she was chosen after only a 72-hour vetting process, it was just one of McCain’s trademark “maverick” moves. Sure her executive experience could be described as limited at best, but Obama just recently used circular logic to qualify his experience by saying that his running of his campaign was proof of experience. Nothing that comes out at this point is damaging her overall appeal to the party…she’s pretty much the Teflon Barbie.

I’m basing this opinion also on the recent gallup info regarding Obama’s recent upshoot to 50%, while McCain holds his standard 42%. That’s great, but can all be explained by the recent Democratic convention. What we need to see here is McCain dropping in percentage points, otherwise all this material coming out clearly isn’t making any difference at all.

That being said, recent reports show that, following the convention, the number of former Clinton supporters who have now decided to vote for Obama has risen by 10%, thus averaging at about 81% (who are certain they will…this number is obviously higher with those who said they probably will). That’s the best news out of all of this, as it demonstrates that most aren’t falling for McCain’s obvious pandering.

My favorite part so far are the gems like this:

That this 17-year-old girl is five months pregnant was widely known in Palin’s hometown, as were plans that she and the baby’s father would soon wed. Centuries before such things became routine in America, in far northern latitudes such as low-birthrate Scandinavia it has been widely accepted that young women demonstrate their fertility before marriage.

Old Dude

Is McCain the Manchurian Candidate?

And if not, why all the fuss? Michael Palin will be a HILARIOUS VP…
