Herzog’s “Rescue Dawn”
A Videos entry from Saturday, July 28, 2007I just saw this movie tonight, so I figured I could safely recommend it now. Herzog is one of my favorite directors, and while this film certainly has its flaws and is only mediocre relative to the Herzog cinematic pantheon, I still think it’s worth seeing and mentioning on this blog, as it’s his first big, non-documentary film since Cobra Verde nearly two decades ago. Here’s a trailer for the movie (in case you haven’t seen one yet):

The imagery of Aguirre, in which men look small and the climbing of the mountain looks like a painting by medieval artists still boggles my mind. After I learned this film is by Herzog, I must see it. He is brilliant. Too bad his Klaus Kinski is dead.
