Slavoj Zizek Reviews “Das Leben der Anderen”

Another insightful analysis/critique of pop culture by the famed Lacanian-Marxist psychoanalyst, this time of the film Das Leben der Anderen, a.k.a. The Lives of Others, which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film (2006).

Wow, that (and Good Bye Lenin!) sounds like a beautiful movie. Thanks for the heads up :)

I’ve actually seen both films. Personally, I enjoyed Das Leben der Anderen more, but I also wasn’t expecting a movie solely about either Ostalgie or the horror under the GDR. I thought of it more as a strange musing on voyuerism and objectophilia than a social statement on repressive regimes.

I liked the CG flying sculpture. It was purty.
