I’ve actually seen both films. Personally, I enjoyed Das Leben der Anderen more, but I also wasn’t expecting a movie solely about either Ostalgie or the horror under the GDR. I thought of it more as a strange musing on voyuerism and objectophilia than a social statement on repressive regimes.
